CUIN 101

Since being in CUIN 101, I have learned so much about the world of technology. I thought that I knew about every piece of technology there was. When first entering class, I thought that I would have known every thing about how technology can be used for teachers. I was definitely wrong! I never knew about the website Delicious or about powerpoint photo album. After leaving this class, I can definitely say that I have learned ALOT!! So much that I will definitely use this in the future as a teacher.

Powerpoint Album

Powerpoint has a photo album? Who would have known! In class we had to create an photo album using powerpoint. It had to be educational of course! In my photo album, I created an photo album on planets. Teachers can use this as a visual for students to see what the teacher would be discussing. Instead of using old time overheads, powerpoint photo album is a way for students to view an lesson visually.

Social Bookmarking; Delicious?

Delicious? Is it a food website? Not at all. Delicious is a social bookmarking website that helps you save all of your favorite websites using tags. Tags? Like a name tag? Yes! The tags help you to manage your favorite websites. You can also add notes to easily identify the purpose of the website. Example! An 8th grade math teacher might use websites for homework help. Instead of saving these websites into favorites, the teacher can go on Delicious and save all of his websites. What if the teacher wants to share these websites with other teachers? Delicious is a public site and anybody can use the resources that the math teacher uses. Delicious is definitely an help aid!

Google Docs

I never knew that Google provided spreadsheets like MS Excel. In class, we created a spreadsheet using names of students and make up test grades using the spreadsheet like a gradebook. We were able to calculate averages using the formulas provided in the spreadsheet. This is a way for teachers to keep track of students grades instead of using an old fashioned gradebook. Teachers like students need to be more adapt to the technology world. The spreadsheet is also a way for teachers to calculate the grades using a calculator instead of manually.

Blogs or iPods in the Classroom?

Technology. The only word that comes to mind when adults think of young people. Back in the day, technology such as computers, iPods, iPads, and blogs weren't even thought about. My parents once said the only technology that they used were calculators and they hardly ever used those. For students now, technology has broaden since the "stone ages". Students can sit in a classroom now and record what the teacher is saying by using any technological equipment. Since the modern day student is so equipped with the new technology, teachers should incorporate it with their lessons and homework.
Blogs. A teacher can use a blog to have the student to reflect on the activities that were taught that day. The teacher should have the student write a paragraph on how he/she felt about the activity. A blog is a way for students to express themselves and maybe get some clarification on something that they thought was hard to do in class.
iPods. A pocket sized device used to play media files. What can a teacher do with an iPod to incorporate learning? Having an iPod in the classroom can cause students to be more aware of what they are doing instead of what someone else is doing. Music is an escape way. If every student listens to their iPod, I guarantee that chatter will stop, grades will come up, and students will establish an relationship with the teacher because they are focused and ready to learn.
